The Foundation & Cornerstone

When you are in construction it is very important to have a firm foundation so that everything built on it will last. It is the same way in our lives. We need a firm foundation to start with and that should be Christ.
Ephesians 2:20
"Ye are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone."
Christ is truth and love and light and honesty and righteousness. If He is our Savior then we should want those qualities in our lives and strive toward the perfection of Christ. If we build our life on lies and deceit and other sins or just earthly things that are temporary, then our life will crumble down around us.
I Corinthians 3:10-15

"According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For no man can lay another foundation than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Now if any man build upon this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble,
every man's work shall be made manifest; for the Day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire, and the fire shall test every man's work of what sort it is.
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereon, he shall receive a reward.
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as fire."
We have all heard or read about the wise man and foolish man that built their homes. One built on sand and the other on rock. When the rains came, the one house fell down and the other withstood the elements.
As you look at your life as you are living one day at a time, are you living for yourself and all the pleasure you can get while here on earth or are you striving to store up your treasures in heaven, where we are told-

Matthew 6:19-20
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: "
As these thoughts have run through my mind today it keeps coming back to one point. It has to be one or the other. You can't have both.
Luke 16:13

"No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
I don't believe that this means that we can't have any money or do our best at our jobs or be happy in a nice house. It just means that these things cannot take top priority in our lives. God gives us everything that we have and we need to give it all back to Him to be used for His glory. Use your home to entertain missionaries and witness to your neighbors and fellowship with other Christian believers. Use your job to witness to your co-workers and tithe out of your paycheck back to God. It's all about your perspective. You can only have the proper perspective if you are submitted to the Spirit of God in our lives. My prayer is that Christ will be all of our foundations and Chief Cornerstone. If He isn't then take the opportunity to change that right now!
