A Century of Anniversaries

One hundred years ago on the other side of this ocean (the Atlantic), the Titantic departed on it's maiden transatlantic voyage. She left South Hampton with over 2,200 souls on board. It's interesting to read up on the Titantic and see that it was equipped with a gymnasium, swimming pool, libraries, restaurants and a telegraph system. The ship was built with watertight doors and other qualities that showed people that it was in a class of its own. And yet it didn't have enough lifeboats.  The passenger roster boasted of a lot of wealthy and important people and yet that could not save them when the boat hit an iceberg and sunk 4 days into its voyage. Only 710 survived. I wonder how many of those people were ready  to go into eternity that day. It reminds me that we are not guaranteed anything in this world except that one day we will die. This tragedy also brings up the point that they thought that the ship was invincible. They were warned about icebergs but did not heed the warnings-continuing  full steam ahead. We are given certain warnings through God's Word and if we choose not to heed them then there will be consequences. I am thankful for the fact that Christ provided a salvation for us so that we can be secure in the fact that no matter what happens in our life we can rest in our Savior if we have accepted Him and asked for forgiveness for our sins.
