Trash to Treasure

Today was our semi-annual neighborhood garage sale. This picture is of our items that were not bought.

We had a great sale-beautiful weather and lots of shoppers. A friend's daughter brought over her stuff as well and set up at the end of the driveway-she was raising money for camp and items for her Kindle. I have been cleaning and 'decluttering' for a few months and gathering items that we do not use anymore. It is amazing to me on how much we accumulate and can do without. If it was in a cupboard or drawer or box and had not been used in a year, then we must be getting along without it and can sell it. We were able to make some money that we ear tagged for a specific purpose. It is funny to watch what people pick up and look at and then buy. A lot of people are friendly and talk and some told us that they were buying things for themselves, others had an agreement with a family member that Christmas presents had to come from thrift shops or garage sales and they bought all my wax to make her candles. There were things that were going to be refurbished and happily used by someone else-the items were given a new owner and purpose.

I can't help but compare this analogy to a person's life. There are things that we allow as we live one day at a time to clutter up our life. They may hinder us in our Christian walk with the Lord. If we are willing to "clean out" then we will be able to serve the Lord better-unhindered.  Sometimes, not everything is bad but there may be better choices that should be made. As we move things out and make way for better things then we can transform our lives and save up our treasures in Heaven to be given to Christ.

Matthew 6:19-21

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
