Each year between February and March the Sand Hill Cranes build a nest and lay their eggs and the cutest little baby birds are hatched!
In our neighborhood there is a couple that have come back to the same spot for 3 years in a row. The first year she had 2 babies and we were able to visit them and some good pictures were taken! Then last year she once again had 2 babies but they disappeared quickly and we fear that they were snatched by another animal. But Mama surprised us and went back to her nest and had another baby around May. This year they were back and once again she 2 little ones. It is amazing how quickly they grow. I can't imagine how the growing pains feel since they are only about 2 months old and they already look like gangly teenagers! We have named the babies Mike & Ike and I love watching for them each day as I go to work and come home. Tonight I had to stop for them as they crossed the road and this is the quick shot I got of them.
Dad is leading the family and Mama is bringing up the back, making sure they all cross safely. It's a great example of a family to me-you see them altogether from the beginning. The Papa gets the food while Mama lays on the nest. Then when the babies are little you see the parents finding the food one day at a time and protecting the babies. When they are a little bigger you see the parents teaching the young to find their own food. Eventually you will see the babies, now grown adults, find their own mate and start the process all over again! Can someone look at you and see the nurturing and care and love that you have for your family? Do you get along or is there discourse in your family? God has a natural pattern for a family. He wants to be at the head with the husband under Him. Then a wife who is her husband's helpmate and a united couple who strive to raise their children to seek God and love Him with all their heart, mind, and soul and live for Him and start the process all over with their family!
