What are you fishing for?

This weekend has been so much fun for me. A childhood friend that I have known since we were 6 years old came to stay with me and be the speaker at my church's ladies' tea. It has been about 6 years since we have been together and it was so much fun catching up and just enjoying some time together. We had a great time of fellowship and food yesterday with the ladies. We then had a light dinner at home and afterwards the two of us drove to St. Armand's Circle and Lido beach. We enjoyed just walking the beach and talking and watching the sun set. Of course I stopped to take a few pictures along the way and the one below is my favorite of the night.

This guy was fishing right off the beach. Shawn and I both said that this shot would make a great conversation starter. "How long has you been fishing?" "What are you trying to catch?" "How many fish have you caught?"
But it also brings to mind another aspect and that is a bible passage about Christ and his disciples. He had started His ministry on earth and was in the process of picking his disciples. Some of the men he talked to were fishermen by trade and they were tending to their jobs when He called them to follow Him. His promise to them was,
Mark 1:17
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
I can remember the song that I learned when I was just a child and it had hand motions with it. 'I will make you fishers of men, fishers of men, fishers of men. I will make you fishers of men if you follow me.' Christ still asks that of us today. What will your answer be? Can you then answer the same questions that we asked of the man in our photo? How long have you been fishing (for souls)? Are you trying to catch others so that they will know the true Savior? How many fish (souls) have you caught for Christ?  All we can do is live one day at a time and be willing to follow Christ and continue to "fish for men"!
