Psalm 34:8
"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him"
There is something about a slice of pie or cake or a bowl of ice cream of your favorite flavor. You can enjoy it and savor it as you eat it bite by bite. Yet, after so many bites...it's gone.
It is wonderful to know that as we live and grow one day at a time, you can get to know the Lord more and more and grow closer to Him. He never leaves you and He never runs out.
As you read His Word and spend time in prayer to Him, you learn more of His character and the love that He has for us. But you have to read and talk and spend time with Him. A piece of cheesecake looks wonderful but you won't know until you taste it. Food won't help fuel your body unless you eat it. God's Word won't help you grow unless you spend time in it.
A poem written by W. Longstaff and put to music by Ira Sankey is a precious Hymn.
Take Time to Be Holy
Take time to be holy,
Speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always,
And feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children;
Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing
His blessing to seek.
Take time to be holy,
The world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret
With Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus,
Like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct
His likeness shall see.
Take time to be holy,
Let Him by thy Guide,
And run not before Him,
What ever betide;
In joy or in sorrow,
Still follow thy Lord,
And looking to Jesus,
Still trust in His Word.
Take time to be holy,
Be calm in thy soul;
Each tho’t and each motive
Beneath His control;
Thus led by His Spirit
To fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted
For service above.
