"All That Glitters...."

This weekend another one of "our kids" got engaged!
**Our kids-Bill teaches Sunday School for the 18-30 year old's and those that are in there we consider them as our kids!
Whenever I see a diamond, the phrase 'all that glitters' comes to mind.  The rest of the phrase 'is not gold'.
If you have been following me for very long then you know that I love to research phrases and the history of things that I don't know. This phrase originally was "all that glisters is not gold" from a line of a Shakespeare play 'The Merchant of Venice'.
The phrase means that not everything that looks beautiful or precious really is beautiful and precious.
Cubic zirconium stones can look quite beautiful and yet they are not worth very much at all. A diamond in its true form is just an ugly rock and yet once it is mined and cut and shaped-it is both beautiful and precious.
This all brings me about to the fact that when we first get saved, we are diamonds in the rough. Each and every soul is precious in God's sight and He desires that all come to a saving knowledge of Him. But when we are saved, we don't know everything all at once. It's like gold-we have to go through a refining process in order to come out looking beautiful!
Job 23:10
"But He knows the way that I take, and when He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold."
We need to study God's Word so that we can learn more about Him and be more like Him-from the inside out. We may not all be beauty queens or Mr. America on the outside but we can be beautiful and precious on the inside. Our inside is more important to God than the outside. We should not judge others on their looks or style, but accept everyone on their own merits because we were all created in the image of God.
Genesis 1:27
"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
There are beautiful people that are lost in sin and, if you want to have a word picture then everyone has an ugly black heart.
Romans 3:23
" for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"
Salvation is the most precious gift that we can receive.
1 Peter 1:7
"That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ."
Live your life for Christ one day at a time, holding it dear and precious in His sight and wanting to share this gift with all those around you.
