Scars

I talked about my son last night and shared with you about the injury he acquired during his soccer game.
This injury will most likely result in a small scar above his eye. It's so funny because since he has had the injury we have heard some different comments like, "girls like guys with scars" or "scars are tattoos with better stories" and "athletes get many scars, it builds character". I have to agree with all of these statements.
A scar is a type of fibrous tissue that replaces the normal skin after an injury. Over time, scars may fade but they will always be there-as a reminder of whatever happened.
I can't help but think about Christ and the scars that he will show us once we get to Heaven. If He had not died on the cross for our sins then He would not have the nail scarred hands and feet or the scar in His side from the spear.
John 20:24-29
"Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.”
So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”
And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
One result of having a scar is that it is something visible for you to be reminded of what happened. As we live one day at a time, there are occasions that we choose to walk our way and sin. If we are Christians then we can ask for forgiveness and our relationship with Christ can be restored. But  there will be consequences that result out of our sins and they may leave scars. Our goal should be to grow closer to God as we walk along our Christian life so that we sin less and therefore we won't have as many "scars" in our lives with which we have to live. God can still use the "scars" in your life. You may be able to minister to someone else going through a similar situation or you may be able to prevent someone from taking a wrong path. A new movie out has a statement in it that I really like, "To be human is to be beautifully flawed." As long as we are here on earth in human bodies with our sin natures we will be flawed. God can still bless and use us if we let Him. One day, when Christ returns, we will be rid of our scarred earthly bodies and transformed to be like Him.
I Corinthians 15:35-58
But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?
Thou fool, that which thou sows is not quickened, except it die:
And that which thou sows, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:
But God gives it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differs from another star in glory.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.
The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.
As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.
And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord."
