Injuries and Children

My son is a striker on his school soccer team. While they were playing last night, he went up for a ball at the same time as his opponent and ended up splitting open his head along his eye brow line. As his mother my heart skipped a beat when he went down and didn't immediately get up. I was thankful for the EMT parents that were present and able to wrap his head up to stop some of the bleeding so that we could take him to the hospital. Everyone at L.W.R. Medical Center were wonderful-calm and efficient. They got us in and out quickly. He will have a scar where the 6 stitches are right now but it won't be very visible. I don't do very well with blood and injuries to someone close to me. I was thankful that I didn't pass out when they undid his bandage and we could see his skin gaping. For most head injuries, this was relatively small. We are thankful that it doesn't seem that he has a concussion. So many things could have made it so much worse. God was and is protecting him. As a mom, I have to leave him in God's hands. It can be easier said than done but it helps to remember that God has given us our children-they are on loan to us.
Psalm 127:3
"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD"
I Samuel 1:9-11, 20
"So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord.
And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.
And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the Lord."
Hannah was an example in the Bible of a selfless mother who was thankful for the child that God gave her. She gave him back to the Lord for His service.
Another selfless mother was Mary. She knew that she was carrying the Son of God. She had to watch him as He died on the cross. She was probably concerned for Him as she followed His ministry but she knew He had to follow His Father's will.
That is also my prayer. That we raise our children to
Luke 10:27
So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
Then we pray that when they spread their wings to fly on their own that they will
"Continue to walk in the truth."
No one is perfect and as we live one day at a time we are always learning. Mistakes will be made but forgiveness can be given and changes can happen. God wants to use each of us. He has a plan for both parents and children and it is so exciting to see how God works. Are you doing your part-as a parent or maybe as the child?
