"Gloria in excelsis Deo"

Tonight was the annual C.C.S. Christmas concert where our junior and senior high kids perform in song and instruments. It is always a wonderful evening of music where the students perform in choirs and the band. My son is a senior and this will be the last Christmas concert in which he will play.
Part of the program is presented by the above choir-a choir made up of voices that sing their parts live angels in harmony. One song that they sang has 'Gloria in Excelsis Deo' in it-Latin for Glory to God in the highest.
As I sat and listened to the beautiful music and the message about Christ's birth that was sung about in some of the songs it made me pause and think about another choir that sang many years ago.
Luke 2:8-14
"Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
Wouldn't that have been an amazing concert?! I've often wondered what the shepherds thought about it after they got over their fear and listened to the music and message being sung to them.
Music is a huge part in my life. I love to listen to music and sing and play the piano and whistle. I sing in a choir at our church and I love to hear the different parts all sung together.
As I live one day at a time, I am thankful that God gave us music and that I am able to enjoy it being singing and hearing it. Yet, even as beautiful as music can be down here on earth I don't believe it can begin to compare to the choir that we will one day be a part of in Heaven as we sing our praises to God!
Psalm 95:1
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
The sweetest song that is sung is one that is sung in praise to our Lord for all He has done!
Christmas season is when we think more about when the angels sang to the shepherds and announced the birth of our Savior! Take a moment and sing-sing a song of praise giving God the glory!
