Today I made a short sightseeing trip right in my own town. I have seen a sign off the highway about Braden River Castle and have never turned in to see what it was about...until today. At first I was disappointed because I as traveled down the road I came to a sign and under "Braden River Castle" it said 55+ park-historic area. (what??) So I drove on and through the maze of streets I came upon an area that was fenced off. It was the remains of the castle. It is really there.
I came home and did some research and found out that Dr. Braden came originally from Virginia and traveled to the Manatee River, bought acreage, and built a "castle" which was just a 2 story building made out of lime, sand, water, and oyster shell. He built it thick specifically for protection against the hostile Indians. He was attacked one night and had slaves and items stolen from him. He later lost the castle in the Panic of 1857. In 1903 there was a fire and it has continued into ruins ever since.
This castle was just made of man-made items and didn't last. It made me think of another castle. I know that since I am saved I have castle being prepared for me in heaven. I know that I can live my life and store up treasures in heaven where neither moths or rust will corrupt and thieves won't break through and steal.
It should help my priorities be sure that my focus is on Christ and know that as I live my life one day at a time it should be with my eyes on Christ.
My love to your family, may you have a very Blessed Easter.
