I love soap!! I love the different scents that you can get-there are floral and fresh and sweet and even food scented soaps! There are solid bars, liquid or foam types. Soap has been around since around 2200 B.C. and was originally made of water, alkali, and cassia oil. The Egyptians bathed with a substance made of both oils and alkaline salts. Soap is used for bathing and cleaning. We use it on our bodies for cleaning and we also use it to clean our surroundings-clothes, dishes, and other objects.
It's silly to think about but would you consider washing and getting all clean with soap only to put on your dirty clothes again? It would defeat the purpose of getting clean.
And yet, sometimes as we are living one day at a time we will "wash up" and clean up the outside and yet we haven't cleaned up the inside. You might be reading this and you are saying, what in the world is she talking about? We are all sinners. As long as we are human we have a sin nature. When we accept Christ as our Savior we acknowledge that we are sinners and we want to turn away from sin. When we do sin we will want to immediately confess and ask for forgiveness. We shouldn't want to continue in sin. If you say that you have become a "new man" and want to continue in sin then there is a problem.
2 Corinthians 5:17
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
There are those that will "play" Christian. They know all the correct jargon and will do the "right" things but they know that they haven't truly accepted Christ. This is something that is only truly known between God and the individual. But God does say that we will be known by our works.
Matthew 12:33-35
"Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things."
Being in God's Word on a daily basis and listening to what God has to say to us will help us live our lives in a way that would please God. We will strive to keep ourselves clean so that we can be a "sweet smell" to our Savior.
2 Corinthians 2:15
"For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved,"
