Today was the day...Presidential Elections 2012.
Our country is blessed that we are a representative republic and we have the PRIVILEGE and DUTY to vote our leaders into office.
I voted...did you? If you did then congratulations-good for you. If you didn't why not?
We may not all agree with who to vote for or what each candidate stands for but we have that freedom of speech and we can differ in our opinions. The entire voting process is amazing. Candidates chose to run and then get backers and supporters and then votes are taken and a winner is normally declared by the end of the voting night. If you are like me you may be tired of all the signs littering the street corners or the umpteen phone calls that keep ringing into your home right at the dinner hour or the countless fliers that clutter up your mailbox. But hopefully, you have taken the time to research the candidates you are voting for and backing so that you can make an intelligent vote.
How did I vote?
As we live one day at a time, we are living in a world of sin. Thankfully, as Christians we know that this is not our final home-we are just sojourners passing through on our way to an eternal home in Heaven with our Savior.
Philippians 3:20
"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,"
But, while we are still here we must submit to those that are placed in authority over us.
Romans 13:1-7
" Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor."
Do you know what I am most thankful for? God is not surprised by what is happening in the US. He is still in control and He knows what has and will happen. I can rest in that fact and not fret when things around us don't go quite as we have planned. I am thrilled by the fact that He is still King of kings and Lord of lords and that he still rules my life. I must still do my part and today I did just that-I voted my values. Now, I must continue to pray for our country and for the man that will be our leader for the next four years. It is an awesome responsibility and not one to be taken lightly. I am proud to be an American-God Bless the USA!
